Houston Heavy Civil Construction Projetcs
Green River Drive and Chatwood Lift Station Diversion
Contract amount: $22,599,925
The project involved installing 5,070 linear feet of 24-inch sanitary sewer micro-tunneling and 5,030 linear feet of 30-inch sanitary sewer micro-tunneling, constructing 28 deep tunnel shafts (30-45 feet deep), and installing 28 seven-foot diameter polymer manholes.
Challenges included adverse ground conditions, groundwater at each shaft, sand and silty seams, and dense fat clay. The site, located in a densely populated neighborhood, required careful planning to minimize disruption.
Upon completing the tunneling phase, Reytec diverted the sewer systems to the new sanitary sewer and decommissioned two existing lift stations. This project was part of the City of Houston’s consent decree initiative, highlighting its critical importance.
