Project Overview
Reytec Construction Resources, Inc. was selected by Montrose TIRZ 27 to deliver comprehensive roadway and streetscape improvements along one of Houston’s most active urban corridors — the intersections and connecting segments of Waugh Drive, Yoakum Boulevard, Commonwealth Street, and Montrose Boulevard at Westheimer. The project supports the City of Houston’s ongoing efforts to enhance multimodal safety, accessibility, and visual appeal within the Montrose district.
This high-traffic location required exceptional coordination, traffic management, and attention to detail. Reytec’s work improved both functionality and aesthetics, balancing infrastructure renewal with modern urban design priorities such as bike and pedestrian safety.
Scope & Key Components
The project included a wide range of improvements:
- 52,000 square yards of asphalt mill and overlay, restoring smooth and durable roadway surfaces.
- 31,000 square feet of concrete driveway replacement and 64,000 square feet of 4.5-inch-thick concrete sidewalks, improving access for residents, businesses, and visitors.
- Installation of new concrete curbs along the roadway to create designated bike lanes, supporting safer multimodal movement through the corridor.
- Replacement of more than 20 streetlights, enhancing nighttime safety and visibility.
- Coordination with multiple stakeholders, including local businesses and city agencies, to minimize disruption during construction.
Reytec also managed key subcontractors—Enterprise Paving (asphalt overlay) and Moran Construction (sidewalks and driveways)—to maintain quality and meet aggressive scheduling goals.
Challenges & Execution
Executing this project in one of Houston’s busiest neighborhoods demanded precise traffic control, adaptive scheduling, and constant coordination with local businesses, residents, and utility providers. Despite the complexity, Reytec successfully completed the project within the original 12-month contract schedule, maintaining strict adherence to safety, quality, and community impact standards.
Impact & Benefits
The improvements brought significant upgrades to roadway condition, pedestrian access, and overall corridor safety—creating a more connected, inviting, and walkable environment through the Montrose district. The addition of protected bike lanes and new lighting further aligns with Houston’s long-term mobility and sustainability goals.
